Roll for Advocacy: Awareness Award Winners

Each year the CC-CAC selects individuals, organizations and businesses who have shown commitment in supporting the mission of the CC-CAC to receive Awareness Awards. This year, Awareness Awards were presented by the CC-CAC Board Chair Karen Middlebrooks and board member Emily Cole to Xavier Whitaker with the University of West Georgia, Jet Ellis with Simply Catering, Tina Broome with Barnes Store, and Cathy Robinson with Mentoring Village.

The CC-CAC’s primary avenue for prevention is through educating adults in how to prevent, recognize and appropriately respond to child sexual abuse via Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training.  The University of West Georgia has embedded this training within their curriculum in the College of Education, the Tanner Health System School of Nursing, The Department of Continuing Education and Kappa Delta Sorority partners with the CC-CAC to raise funds and awareness. Therefore UWG was selected as one of the 2018 Awareness Award recipients.

The mission of the Mentoring Village is to network, train, certify, and develop our community mentoring organizations and their volunteers in order to achieve the greatest success in mentoring our youth.  As part of their training for mentors, the Mentoring Village requires Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training of all mentors.

Simply Catering believes in the mission of the CC-CAC and has supported the Carroll County Child Advocacy Center’s Roll for Advocacy Event every year by providing catering needs for the event.

The Barnes Store has been a primary supporter of the CC-CAC’s Aim for Advocacy event. The Barnes Store has also trained all of their employees in Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children prevention education.
